Smashbox and Instagram

Hello Loves!

I'm sure you're aware that I am in LOVE with Smashbox products. I haven't found a single one that I haven't enjoyed. Recently, I purchased their Beauty Exposed Kit. It contains eyeshadow, blush, lip gloss, eyeliner, and primer. The best part about shopping Smashbox online is all the free goodies you get. I posted a picture below, which by the way is from my Instagram page because yours truly deleted it from her camera roll. So you can share in the greatness of Smashbox and follow me at the same time! It's a win-win if you ask me!

1. Beauty Exposed Eye Shadow Palette with Soft Lights
2. Free Sample- Camera Ready BB Cream with SPF 35
3. Lip Enhancing Gloss in Starfruit (travel size)
4. Free Sample- Travel size lip gloss
5. Eye Liner in Stone
6. Photo Finish Primer (travel size)
7. Free Bonus Sample- Baked Fusion Soft Lights Highlighter
8. Blush Rush in Peony
9. Free Bonus Sample- Studio Skin Foundation

I have not tried the BB cream yet so I can't really leave any feedback on it yet. Everything else, perfection! I have a very oily T-zone and dry everywhere else so it is difficult for me to find a good foundation that can make my skin look even. The foundation alone is wonderful but since I also have large pores, the primer and foundation together makes my skin look airbrushed and really minimizes my pore problem.

Here I am wearing the lip gloss in starfruit and some shades from the eyeshadow palette.

What are some of your favorite Makeup products? I would love to hear from you!

Healthy Breakfast Recipe

Have you ever heard of 'Quinoa' (KEEN-wah)? Well, I hadn't until today. I came across this recipe on Martha Stewarts website. It is sort of like oatmeal and very high in protein. Right under Buckwheat until cooked which then makes it the highest protein grain. If you want to read more about it you can go visit her website here. The recipe below will help you prepare it for a lovely, healthy breakfast. Not to mention it's perfect for breakfast after working out! Enjoy!

Recipe:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole or low-fat milk, plus more for serving
  • 1 cup quinoa, rinsed
  • 3 tablespoons light-brown sugar, plus more for serving
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon, plus more for serving
  • 1 cup (1/2 pint) fresh blueberries, plus more for serving

Directions

  1. Bring milk to a boil in a small saucepan. Add quinoa, and return to a boil. Reduce heat to low, and simmer, covered, until three-quarters of the milk has been absorbed, about 15 minutes.
  2. Stir in sugar and cinnamon. Cook, covered, until almost all the milk has been absorbed, about 8 minutes. Stir in blueberries, and cook for 30 seconds. Serve with additional milk, sugar, cinnamon, and blueberries.

Flying West

Again!

This Memorial Day holiday I will be flying to Arizona AGAIN! I am beyond excited! This time, we're hoping to get "hitched". It seems as though this is our only chance. It certainly won't be anything big, nor will any family be there, but this is about us. We don't need to have a big, lavish wedding ceremony. Growing up, all little girls dream of having a big wedding with a big princess dress and their Prince Charming. In the end, it is just the Prince and his Princess. No more dress, no more extravagant decorations, just them together. That is what our "wedding" will be; just us two, together. Which is how our life will be, well plus the kiddos. Which on another note, we are going to start trying for little JB's once we get settled into our new place overseas. You're probably wondering why I haven't exactly named the place yet, well I have no idea what OPSEC allows nor do I wanna jinx it because it is the military and for anyone who is in the military or married to it, you know how things change last minute. Time will tell =) Anywho, back to the ceremony-ish-thing-whatcha-ma-call-it, I have been praying non-stop that it will work out this time. It was supposed to happen on the last Arizona trip but, of course, something came up with his job and it couldn't happen. So hopefully, since he is off this Memorial Day Holiday, wish us luck!

The garter  I bought months ago can hopefully be put to use!

The Ugly 'D' Word.. Dieting.

Since JB left in October, I have been on this crazy diet/workout binge. I have tried every diet you can think of with the exception of the ones on tv where food is delivered to your door. Now, THAT I do not believe in. I have tried the special K diet, the no carb diet, the ALL carb diet, the protein diet, the smaller portion diet, the no sugar diet and came close to the vegan diet but I love my chicken too much. I have tried many weight loss exercise programs too. The Nike Training Club (which I previously posted about), pilates, even the old Tae Bo. Now I have succumb to the gym and special K diet, again. It seems to be working. I have lost about 12 lbs since I started keeping track in February. Little slow for my taste but at least I am losing. I have lost about 1 inch off my waist, 3 off my hips and about 2 around my thighs.

I have learned a few things during this whole "weight loss trial". I learned about food choices and the fact that eating is better than not eating. I eat 7 times a day. Every 2 hours. Snacks consist of fruits and nuts. I only drink water with the exception of green tea in the morning. It boosts metabolism and is better for you than coffee. Trust me, I LOVE my coffee but green tea is more beneficial than coffee. Here is a list I compiled.

  1. Aids in weight loss- The polyphenols in green tea are extremely useful for dissolving triglycerides, a     substance in the liver and small intestine made up of mostly sugar and fat, and this is thought to be the reason green tea benefits fat loss.
  2. lower cholesterol-Researchers believe that green tea lowers your cholesterol levels by reducing its absorption in your digestive tract and increasing the rate of which it is excreted.
  3. Boosts your immune system-as one of the main benefits of green tea, EGCG has been highlighted by a study published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology as being able to prevent infections, including the HIV virus. EGCG binds with CD4 immune system T-cell receptors and stops HIV from doing the same to reduce the risk of infection. While it is still way too early to peg green tea as a cure for HIV, an Egyptian study has shown that combining antibiotics with green tea significantly boosts the effectiveness of the antibiotic. In fact, when tested against 28 disease-causing microorganisms, green tea enhanced the bacteria killing power in every single case.
  4. Lowers your risk of cancer-Although the studies of how green tea affects cancerous cells are still in their infancy, there have been human trials which indicate that it does inhibit cells from developing cancer. EGCG in green tea regulates and inhibits cancer growth by killing cells that are growing inappropriately. In Japan, a study of 500 women with Stage I and Stage II breast cancer found that increasing their green tea consumption before and after surgery significantly lowered the risk of recurrence. Another analysis of 22 studies of the correlation between green tea and lung cancer concluded that by increasing your intake of green tea by two cups a day may reduce the risk of developing lung cancer by 18%.
  5. Fights the cause of allergies in your body. Methylated epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) has been shown to block a cells receptor involved in producing an allergic response. By blocking the production of histamine and immunoglobulin E (IgE), two compounds in the body that are chiefly involved in triggering and sustaining allergic reactions, EGCG could very well be the compound which prevents you from having watery eyes, sneezing and coughing.
Now, this is just a small list as you can see the explanations are long. If you would like to read more on it. You can click here.

Uncle Sam Confuses Me

So, JB started off the nightly phone call by "I have good news and bad news what do you want first?" Me, being the type of person I am responded with a drole "gimme the bad news..." His bad news was "you won't be able to take everything overseas when we move." WHAT!?!? I say, iimmediately looking at Edgar, my 6 foot wooden giraffe from Africa in the corner of my living room. "Buuuut whyyy??" I wine. "There is a weight limit " he says. So, I then start looking at things around the apartment of things I wouldn't want to take with me. Yea, couldn't find anything. My stuff is going to be the only thing to make me feel at home while I am over there. "Well, that sure is bad news, what is the good news?" I say. His response, "we are probably going to have a furnished apartment. That's why you can't take everything. What are we going to do with 2 of everything?" Two couches would probably be a little difficult to work with. Then again, I would rather fall asleep and drool on a couch I have always had then drool in a spot where other peoples butts were. Just sayin. Looks like I have to do some spring cleaning. I am positive the goodwill would love my contribution. I have enough stuff to fill 2 homes not including my own. That is what happens when you have a sister who get's divorced and moves home, along with 2 parents who WERE divorced and then got back together. Everything comes to me, the only person NOT living at home who has a place to get things away from their homes, a live in storage unit if you will. Needless to say, goodwill will have a plethora of blenders, brooms, and dishes. YAY! Edgar, however, will be going with me. In case you're wondering, I am obsessed with Giraffes.

Signed- Creepy giraffe lady with lots-o-blenders.
